Born August 12, 1949, passed away on November 22, 2012, at the age of 63 after fighting lung cancer for almost a year. Born in Lansing, the son of Joseph Matthew Jakovac and Audrey Jean McGinley. He served his country as part of the United States Navy in Vietnam. Joe was retired from the City of East Lansing Waste Water Treatment Plant. He enjoyed playing softball, watching Notre Dame, fishing, spending time with his grandchildren, and trips to the casino.
He was preceded in death by his Mother Audrey and his sister Theresa Jean Schafer. Joe is survived by his father Joseph, children Kelly (Randy) Coffey and Joey Jakovac; grandchildren, Tyler Coffey and Abbey Coffey. Also surviving are six nephews, one niece, numerous cousins and former wife and friend Diane Jakovac.
Military Funeral services will be Friday November 30 at 11:30 am, at Fort Custer National Cemetery,15501 Dickman Road, Augusta, MI 49012. There will be an informal procession leaving at 10:00 am from Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home,1730 E Grand River Ave, East Lansing. Following the services there will be a luncheon in Joe’s memory at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, East Lansing, in Father Mac Hall from 1-4 pm to celebrate his life.
