Laurie Anne LaClear, 77 of Williamston, was called to her eternal home on Thursday, August 15th after a brief battle with cancer.
To know Laurie was to Love her. Laurie’s professional life career choices told so much about her personality, her friendly warm caring nature, her love of people and contributing in any way possible when the call arose. Laurie spent a little more than 20 years as an Accountant working with the Executive Directors and other staff members at the Michigan High School Athletic Association and she enjoyed every minute of it. In her “retirement” Laurie then found herself in much of the same capacity with the Habitat for Humanity Organization of Greater Ingham for 6 plus years. Laurie always made friends along the way as she did wherever she was and whatever she was engaged in.
Laurie’s greatest contribution of her financial, record keeping and accounting ability was within her time; over 17 years with the Williamston Fraternal Order of Eagles, #4091. Throughout Laurie’s years of very active membership in the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Laurie served as Madam President, Past Madam President, 10 years as Auxiliary Secretary, and Auditor for both the Aerie and Auxiliary, among other officer positions. Few possessed more than Laurie’s extensive knowledge of the Eagles non-profit organization, nor had more passion, belief, and more fully lived the Charity and Community minded “People Helping People” motto. Laurie’s dedication and commitment to the Fraternal Order of Eagles earned her honors of distinction such as being named Mother of the Year and Grandmother of the year each more than once; beyond well-deserved accolades. Our beloved Eagle Sister, Laurie’s volunteerism, impact and contribution to the Williamston Fraternal Order of Eagles, #4091 is forever lasting and will be long remembered.
Laurie is preceded in death by her parents, Franklin James LaClear and Marie Ethel LaClear and beloved big brother James “Jim” Franklin LaClear and Sister-In-Law, Mary LaClear. Her cherished pup, Tiggers, has also been awaiting her heavenly arrival.
Surviving Laurie are a niece, many great nieces and nephews, many great great nieces and nephews, cousins, her dear Eagle family, her Haven of Rest extended family who gave her great care and joy and showed her amazing warmth, compassion, love and friendship, plus many many friends throughout the community.
Though Laurie was an easy-going casual person she loved an occasional good reason to dress up. Laurie also loved to travel though she did not get as many opportunities to do so and see as many beautiful places as she would have liked to. Laurie's interests combined with her wicked sense of humor led her to a wide range of likes in entertainment genres ranging from the Horror and Suspense of scary movies, Stephen King works and Mary Higgins Clark novels to the antics of Jeff Dunham and his sidekicks. Laurie's discerning, eclectic choice of music was not limited to her favorites, Brooks and Dunn, but also reached back to the archives of Anne Murray, The Mamas and the Papas, Creedence Clearwater Revival. Her fun-loving upbeat nature came out through the music of the Bee Gees, Beach Boys and Neil Diamond. She threw in some more tunes from ABBA, Melissa Etheridge, Barry Manilow, Steve Winwood, Sheryl Crow and others while also reaching to the likes and heights of Kid Rock.
With her quick wit and competitive nature, Laurie’s sense of Humor could go out the window when it came to her love of games of all types. She was accustomed to winning at Euchre, one of her favorite games and often winning more than her share of Left Right Center. Her side table often had Crossword puzzle and game books, and her TV would often be seen on the Game Show Network.
Laurie's light heartedness and love of life was represented in everything she did! She was one in a million, the life of the party, and knew how to light up a room. Her most precious gifts were her big bright beautiful smile, her wonderful hardy laugh and a fierce friendship many were fortunate to have. Laurie's presence will be dearly missed. We'll hold you Forever in our hearts until we hug you in heaven! Rest in Peace!
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, September 19, 2024 at 5:00 pm at the Williamston Fraternal Order of Eagles, 835 High St, Williamston MI, 48895.
Per Laurie’s wishes, in lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the Capital Area Humane Society 7095 W. Grand River Avenue, Lansing, MI, 48906.
