Lorraine was born on May 20, 1931 in Holland, Michigan to Clarence and Susie Beagle. She grew up in Lake City, Michigan during the hardships of the Great Depression and World War II years that shaped her character. She instilled these values in her children. She graduated from Lake City High School in 1949 and graduated from a business college. She worked as a secretary at BF Goodrich until she married the love of her life, Richard McKane, in 1958. They moved to Meridian Township where they raised their two children. After their youngest child was in school, she began working at Michigan State University as a secretary in the Social Science department. She thoroughly enjoyed working at MSU and became a MSU sports fan, except when they played her beloved Michigan Wolverines. She was a long-time member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Lansing, MI. Lorraine most enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially time spent at the family cottage on Platte Lake, the Beagle family reunion and birthday celebrations.
She is survived by her children, Patti McKane, Okemos, MI and Mike (Mistie) McKane of St. Johns, MI; grandchildren, Charlie (Jill) of Bath, MI and Jim McKane of Columbia, SC; and her brother, Henry “Hank” (Jackie) Beagle of Cadillac, MI. As the two youngest children of a large family, she had a special bond with her Katzenjammer brother, Hank. She is also survived by many of her nieces and nephews and her grand dogs Moose, Addie and Bubba. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard; her parents; her in-laws; her step-siblings, Fritz, Jake, Anna and Agnes; her siblings, Sarah, Ted, John and Charlotte.
The family wishes to thank her friends and staff of Independence Village for making her later years so enjoyable. We also wish to thank Frances and Brianna of Tender Hands home health care for the compassionate and excellent care that they provided to Lorraine these past few weeks.
