Louise Clarkson, born Louisa Belle Holland on December 17, 1928, in Westminster, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at the age of 96. She was one of six siblings—Charlie M. Sweeny, Evelyn F. Sweeny, Jessie M. Sweeny, Doris “Dot” B. Sweeny, and William "Bill" H. Holland—all of whom predeceased her.
Louise’s life was marked by resilience and adventure. After moving to Michigan with her husband, whom she married on St. Patrick’s Day in 1956, Louise built a life filled with love and dedication. In 1969, she and her family purchased their first and only home, where she lived for the remainder of her life.
She was a proud spelling bee champion during her high school years and carried that sharp intellect into her professional life. Louise worked as a secretary for Michigan State University’s Animal Husbandry Department before transitioning to a full time mother for a number of years. She went back to work in 1985 with a fulfilling role at the local YMCA childcare center, where she worked for many years until her retirement.
Louise had a deep love for music and enjoyed playing the organ. She was an avid traveler who embraced the world with open arms. Her adventures included a mother-daughter trip to Acapulco, Mexico, in 1994; a memorable Caribbean cruise; visits to Germany, France, Italy, and Thailand; and countless journeys across the United States.
She adored Patsy Cline, Elvis Presley, and Jimmy Buffett—and always appreciated a bottle of Bud Light to accompany their music.
Louise is survived by her two children, Dean Clarkson (Noy) and Denise McGlynchey (Michael), as well as her beloved grandchildren, Brandan and Meghan.
Her legacy of love, laughter, and adventure will continue to inspire all who knew her. May her memory and spirit bring comfort to those who cherished her presence.
Louise will be laid to rest with a private family burial at East Lawn Memory Gardens in Okemos, Michigan. A Celebration of Life will be schedule at a later date.
