

Marilyn, of East Lansing, MI (formerly of Atlanta, MI) was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend to many, passed away after 80 years of life on Thursday, January 8 in Okemos, Michigan surrounded by her loved ones. Marilyn was born on December 1, 1934 in Clare, Michigan to Lavina and George Woods. She spent most of her childhood in Lewiston and Lansing, Michigan. In 1953, she graduated from Atlanta High School. Marilyn married her husband, Neil McKenzie, in the Fall of 1953. She retired from the Atlanta Community School system after working 35 years as a cafeteria worker. She enjoyed keeping in touch with former students as they progressed through high school and life. Marilyn is survived by one brother, Don Woods, of North Pole, Alaska, and two step-sisters, Fay Wright of Lewiston, Michigan and Virginia Personious of Holt, Michigan. She is also survived by four sons: Dan (Patty) of Lapeer, Michigan, James (Leanne) of East Lansing, Michigan, Randy (Jeannie) of Atlanta, Michigan, and Todd (Marla) of Elmira, Michigan; five grandchildren: Randy, Jr. of Mio, Michigan, Carolee of Brethren, Michigan, Trevor of San Diego, California, Michael of Doha, Qatar, and Meghan of Los Angeles, California; three step-grandchildren: Kris, Kenny, and Kyle Delicata; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Neil McKenzie, sister Dorothy Artibee, and brothers Bob Woods and Pat Karns. Her family and friends remember her as a selfless, affectionate, and loving woman. Marilyn found great joy spending time with her family whether it be supporting her children and grandchildren in their various accomplishments, sharing her cooking skills, chatting over a cup of coffee, or listening to family stories. After a long battle with Huntington's Disease, Marilyn wished to express the following message: "If I appear to behave strangely it is because I have Huntington's Disease. I may slur my words, appear to be distracted or may have trouble walking. I know that I am doing these things. I am aware of what is going on. Please be patient. Thank you for your understanding and caring." A memorial service will be held May 2, 2015, Atlanta Bible Church, 11697Michigan 33, Atlanta, MI. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Cremation and final arrangements were made by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, East Lansing, Michigan.
