Born August 19, 1921 in Seward, Nebraska to Perry and Floy (Cross) Stubbs; passed away January 21, 2011. Dick grew up on a farm during the Depression and Dust Bowl years. He graduated from Seward High and enrolled at Michigan State College, earning a degree in Hotel/Restaurant Administration and was a member of the Spartan Marching Band. He was called to active duty in the Army in 1943, and served in Military Intelligence during WWII and Korea. His nearly 40 year career in the Investment Business began with I.D.S. followed by 28 years with Merrill Lynch and 6 years with Prudential-Bache. He retired in 1988, and was known for integrity and professionalism. Dick was a long time member and Past President of Walnut Hills CC, and was also a member of the City Club of Lansing, the Board of Elders of Peoples Church, and the Mayflower Society. He loved the annual Barothy Lodge Weekend with his professional colleagues who were also great friends. Thanks to those same gentlemen for the wonderful luncheon this past November. Dick got great joy from his grandchildren and their achievements. He loved the annual family July 4th week in Harbor Springs, and looked forward to it all year. Dick was predeceased by his parents and by sisters, Marjorie Atchley and Elizabeth McGinnes. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eleanor (Belyea) Stubbs, his son, Richard W. Stubbs, Jr. (Mary), daughter Elizabeth A. McGaw (Dorn), and grandchildren Perry and Bonnie Stubbs & Kaylei and Darby McGaw, sister-in-law Shirley Belyea, as well as nieces and nephews. He was well read, possessed a great intellect, and a wonderful sense of humor. He was a true patriot who dearly loved this great country, and a man of strong principles and values. Our family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers of Hospice Advantage. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, February 4, 11:00 am at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 1730 East Grand River Ave., East Lansing with Rev. Penelope Swartz officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 3 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice in memory of Dick.
