

Age 87, passed away on Monday, September 6, 2010. He was born on February 14, 1923 in Mt. Pleasant to Carl and Cora Gorden. Robert served in the U. S. Army during WW II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a fireman with the East Lansing and Meridian Township Departments for many years and also served on the Meridian Township Board. Robert retired from Michigan State University after 28 years of service. He enjoyed riding and showing horses along with camping and playing in a band with his wife. Most of all he loved the time he would spend with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; daughter, Patricia Virtue; grandson, James Jury; one sister and 4 brothers. Surviving are his children, Carolyn (Kenneth) Towne, Andy (Marleen) Gorden and Deborah (Robert) Holsinger; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; special friends, Shirley Remington and John and Trudy Good and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing, with the Rev. Kenneth L. Ridge of Towar Hart Baptist Church officiating. For those who wish, the family request contributions be made to Towar Hart Baptist Church, 6157 Towar Ave., East Lansing, in memory of Robert.
