Ruth Loretta Peters

Ruth Loretta Peters of East Lansing, Michigan, passed away June 9, 2018, at the age of 93. Born February 10, 1925, in Tonawanda, New York, Ruth was the youngest of five children of Harley and Caroline Thursby. Her family moved to Lakeside, Michigan, in 1939, where she attended New Buffalo High School.

After graduating high school, she worked as an x-ray technician at Mercy Hospital in Benton Harbor, Michigan. She attended Michigan State College from 1945 to 1946 and made lifelong friends there. She remained a loyal Spartan her entire adult life.

Ruth married Warren C. Peters of Berwyn, Illinois, on June 21, 1947. They raised their family in Stevensville, Michigan. Warren predeceased her in January 2000.

Ruth is survived by her three children, Roger (Justine) Peters of East Lansing; Timothy (Sun Mi) Peters of Seoul, Korea; and Barbara (Michael) Matesich of Bear Lake, Michigan, and Surprise, Arizona; as well as nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Ruth loved to travel, enjoying trips to the Far East, Europe, and many parts of the United States and Canada to visit family and friends.

She took pleasure in gardening, reading, and orresponding with friends and relatives. For many years Ruth was an avid painter of landscapes and still lifes. Perhaps most of all, she looked forward to visits by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ruth was committed to Christian missions and humanitarian work for many decades.

The family wishes to thank the staff of The Willows of East Lansing and McLaren Hospice-Lansing for the comfort and care provided to Ruth during her final months.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 16, 11:00 a.m., Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Avenue, East Lansing, MI. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
