Shobha Ramanand was a dynamic and independent woman, a maverick aunt to her niece and nephews, beacon to her siblings, a prolific grant writer to her friends and colleagues and a loving daughter to her parents and extended family. She passed on January 10, 2022 at the age of 69.
She was born to Col. V.S. Ramanand and V. Vijailakshmi on February 22, 1952 in Rajahmundry, India. Shobha was the eldest of four siblings and a free spirited woman. She was the favorite niece of all of her uncles and aunts, and a very special cousin.
After a successful career in the Indian Civil Services, Shobha moved to Lansing to pursue her PhD at Michigan State University, where she worked for the rest of her life and had an illustrious career as a researcher, teacher, grant writer and administrator. She was a competitive scholar and doting friend. She is survived by her siblings, niece, nephews, and a large chosen family in the greater Lansing area.
