Sylvester John Block

East Lansing

Passed away November 7, 2014 at the age of 87. Sylvester was born December 31, 1926 in Winona, MN to William Carl and Angeline Agnes (Martin) Block. He was an Army veteran of WWII (1949-1952) and served in the Merchant Marines (1947-1948). He retired after 30 years of service from the East Lansing Police Dept., having risen to the rank of Lieutenant. He also served four years with the LCC Police Academy.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Patricia Ann Block (January 2, 1999), brother, Kenneth and two sisters-in-law.

Surviving are his daughters, Sandra (Russell) Fink and Debra (Brian) McCarthy; sons David (Cindy) Block and Sylvester Block, II and seven grandchildren. Also surviving are brother Roger Block and sister, Elizabeth “Betty” (Jim) Pawlowski.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 11, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Avenue. East Lansing. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 10, 2014 5-8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at Deepdale Memorial Gardens with Military honors.
