Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, departed this life May 16, 2011. He was born April 30, 1930, in Saginaw, son of the late Vincent and Lettie Twarozynski, and was also called Thad, Ted or “Jackson” by his family and friends. He graduated from Saginaw High School in 1948, and belonged to Saginaw’s Holy Rosary Parish. Thad was a 4-year veteran of the U.S. Army, having entered the service in 1948 at Fort Knox, KY, and served in Guam, Fort Meyer, VA, and at the Pentagon. He graduated with a B.A. in Accounting from Michigan State University in 1960, where he was President of Beta Alpha Psi Honorary Accounting Fraternity. Thad worked for the University in the Contract & Grants Department from the time he graduated until his retirement in 1991. He married Margaret McKenna, a registered nurse and instructor in 1958 at St. Mary Cathedral in Saginaw, MI, and made their lifelong residence in East Lansing. He was blessed to have raised five children with her by his side. As his children were growing up, he devoted much of his time to their church and schools, St. Thomas Aquinas, East Lansing, and Lansing Catholic Central, and was a board member and coach for the Okemos Athletic Klub (OAKS). Thad was an active member of his community. He was a member of the Catholic War Veterans Post #1654 of Lansing, serving as a past commander, Knights of Columbus East Lansing Council #7816, Knights of Columbus Bishop Albers 4th Degree Assembly #0496 of Lansing, the American Legion Haslett Post #269, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lansing #1039 of Lansing, Ingham Medical Center Cornerstone Club and the M.S.U. Alumni Association. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish for 48 years, where he could always be relied upon as an usher and part of the counting team. Thad is survived by his wife, Margaret; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kim Twarozynski of Rochester Hills, MI; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Beth Twarozynski of Goldsboro, NC; daughter and son-in-law, Tricia and David DeClercq of Fenton, MI; son and daughter-in-law, James and Tracy Twarozynski of Grand Ledge, MI; and daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Lance Lacombe of New Port Richey, FL; brother and sister-in-law, Victor and Rita Twaro of Freeland, MI. He will also be loved and missed by 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Thad was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Blondine Twarozynski Haller; and brothers, Anthony and Bernard Twarozynski. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 20, at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 955 Alton Rd., East Lansing. The Rite of Committal will be held in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Lansing. The family will receive friends at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing, on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. The family will also receive friends at the church on Friday 1-hour prior to the service. The family wants to extend a thank you to his doctors, Dr. John Wenzel, Dr. Paul Zack and Dr. Michael Dickinson; and Great Lakes Home Health and Hospice, especially nurses, Mike and Dianne, who helped make his last months comfortable and peaceful. Also, a special thank you to grandsons, Stephen and Eric for their loving and compassionate care provided during his final weeks. Their presence brought both comfort and humor into his home during this time.
