Age 73, passed away Monday, February 27, 2012. Born January 9, 1939, to John and Cecilia Hay of Salem, OR, she graduated from Oregon State University with a degree inHome Economics. She met and married her husband, Lawrence “Larry” Copeland, while they were attending OSU. Val taught Home Economics at the high school in
Harrisburg, OR before she and Larry moved to the East Lansing area in 1967 when he took a professorship at MSU. She and Larry would have celebrated 48 years of marriage in July, 2012. Val was blessed to be an active member of First Baptist Church of Okemos since 1967, as well as a part of Child Evangelism Fellowship and an auxiliary
member of The Gideon’s International.
In addition to her husband, Val is also survived by her children, John (Connie) of MountJoy, PA, and Deborah (Chris) Campbell of Cedarville, OH; her grandchildren, Kelly, Holly, and Abigail Campbell and Corey and Bethany Copeland; brothers Joe (Lorraine) and James Hay of Salem, OR and sister Linda (Marvin) Stoller of Molalla, OR.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 2, at First Baptist Church of Okemos, 4684 Marsh Road, Okemos with Pastor Joe Dabrowski officiating. The family will receive friends at the church two hours prior to the service.
