Vicki was born in Saginaw and graduated from Saginaw High School. She attended Alma College where she obtained her degree in elementary education along with her permanent teaching certificate. Following college, she taught elementary school in Hancock and Malcolm counties and six years in the Lansing Public Schools. In 1970, she married and began working at the Williamston branch of Ingham County Library and Williamston Public Schools as a librarian. While there, she spent many years reading to multitudes of children, many of whom, as adults, still remember her and their time together.
She volunteered in the library of the Okemos Community Church and other church-led endeavors during her 50 years of membership. In addition to the church and library communities, she supported the arts with theatre memberships at Stratford Canada and at the Wharton Center at Michigan State University. She was also an accomplished musician, playing publicly with her recorder group and privately on the piano.
She married Roger Lynas, and together in 1970, they built their family home in Williamston where she lived the remainder of her life. They would have been married 51 years on July 10th. Home was where she most loved to be - taking walks with friends, photographing wildlife, and tending flower beds. She found comfort in classical music playing on WKAR, birds at the feeder, a good book and quality chocolate in her favorite chair. She will be remembered for her personal book recommendations, love of fine food, warm heart, and genuine kindness toward all people and animals. She was a great and gracious lady who will be missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to have known her.
Vicki is predeceased by her parents, Thelma and Clarence Jackson, of whom she shared many warm memories. Remembering her are her husband Roger Lynas, Son Gregory Lynas (Kristen Porter), Granddaughter Ella Lynas (to whom she was affectionately known as, “Grammie”), Brother Daniel Jackson (Kathy Jackson) and goddaughters Brittany, Carrie and Jennifer.
A celebration of life for family and friends will be held at Okemos Community Church.
