

William (Billy) Young, age 69, of East Lansing died on March 21, 2024, at McLaren Hospital. He was born in Lansing on September 30,1954 to Florence Elizabeth McGee Suddeth who preceded him in death. William and his wife Jean were married in 1986 in Lansing, MI. He graduated from Sexton High School. He attended Spring Arbor College and graduated with honors in 1995. William then attended Western Michigan University and was rewarded his Master of Arts Degree in 1999. He earned his Credentials of Ministry from the Universal Life Church in 2013, so he could officiate a friend’s wedding. William was employed at Ingham Intermediate School District, as a Behavior Management Specialist until his retirement in 2016. He loved singing and joined the Capital Area Chordsmen with whom he sang barbershop for many years. Bill had a great sense of humor and was kind, warm and generous. He will be missed. He created a lot of memories for many people.
William is survived by his wife Jean Young, his children Shawnya Williams, Elizabeth Young, Michael (Tonisha) Wheeker and Amanda Wheeker. His brothers Kenneth, Aaron (Monique), Von (Marion), sisters Tracey, Shawne, Tay Ann, Cheryl (Aubrey). Grandchildren Shaniah, Kyleighana, Taylor, Kendall, Kelly, Jocelyn and Brandon. He is leaving behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. William is preceded in death by his brothers Courtney, Jay, Stephen, Jace, sister Terra Lynn and son Daniel.
There will be a memorial visitation on Saturday April 6, 2024, from 3-7p.m. at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, East Lansing Chapel 1730 E. Grand River Ave, East Lansing, Michigan. Flowers are welcome as are donations to the American Heart Association. Life well lived.
