Elinor M. Read

She was born on October 13, 1918 in Iowa to Lamont and Clara Ethel (Vail) Maxwell. She married John C. Read in August of 1940 in Dubuque, IA. He preceded her in death on October 20, 2008 in East Peoria, IL. Her parents, one daughter, Kathryn Jackson, one brother and one sister also preceded her in death.

Surviving are her two children, John M (Linda) Read of East Peoria and Dorothy Sharp of Peoria Heights. Also surviving are five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Elinor received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from W.I.U, graduating in 1958 with high honors. She worked as a teacher and librarian in District 150 until retiring in 1981. She was a member of the East Peoria United Methodist Church and volunteered at Methodist Hospital, with the American Red Cross and volunteered 8400 hours at Scottsdale Memorials Hospital. She served on the Girl Scouts Board of Directors and loved to knit hats for Preemies babies at Methodist Hospital.

Cremation rites will be accorded and Remmert Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
