

He was born Feb. 17, 1926 in Peoria to Homer R. and Murriel J. (Byram) Briggs Sr. He married Nancy S. Roodhouse in East Peoria on May 28, 1977. She survives.
Also surviving are 5 children, Edward (Denise) Briggs, Harold Briggs, Randy (Debbie) Briggs, Jeff (Cindy) Briggs, Peggy Stark; 2 step-children, Joy (Tom) Boehl, Tom (Sherlynn) Sorrells; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Harold (Charlotte) Briggs; 2 sisters, Nancy and Mary Koeppel; and his special pet companion, Pepper.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Jim and Raymond Hendricks; and 2 sisters, Thelma Cain and Barbara Santos.
Homer was a WWII and Korean War U.S. Navy Veteran. He was a member of the VFW Post 2078 in East Peoria, (LST) Landing Ships Tank Association, and the National LST Association. Homer worked as a crane operator for 34 years at Keystone and later at Schmidt-Haller Burial and Cremation Services and Remmert Funeral Home for many years before retiring. He has always been a Die-Hard Cubs fan.
He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of East Peoria where Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2014 with Rev. Mary Arnold officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria with further visitation from 9 a.m. until service time on Friday at the church. Burial with Military Honors will be at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
