She was born on February 27, 1932 in Bakersfield, Missouri, a daughter of Ted and Chloe ( Blaylock ) Johnston. Juanita married Andrew Donald "Andy" Buhs, Sr. on July 21, 1979 in East Peoria. He preceded her in death on January 7, 2019 in East Peoria.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; adopted daughter, Betty Jo Moulton; sisters, Avis Baldwin, Marine Wray, and Katherine Nolan; brother-in-law, Dwayne Wray; and step-son, Darren Keith Buhs.
Juanita is survived by her two children, Terry (Nancy) Evans of Winter Haven, FL, and Tammy Jo (Greg) Townsend of East Peoria; four grandchildren, Andrea (Eli), Amy (Alan), Trevor (Abby), and Tyler (Cheyenne); great-grandchildren, Korbin, Breckin, Abram, Caitlin, Abby, and Baylor; brothers-in-law, Jack and Bobby; three step-sons, Andrew, Randy, and Steve; twelve step-grandchildren and twelve step-great-grandchildren.
She was a manager at Sears for 21 years before retiring in 1979.
A member of Sunnyland Church, she was regularly involved with their Sunnyland Women's Club. She often volunteered with Church Clusters, which are a way to help raise money for churches through community sales, and she also volunteered with the Salvation Army. She served as the president and treasurer respectively for the Sears Retirees.
Juanita's funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Monday, July 15, 2024 at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Rev. Robin Robinson and Rev. Dwight Winnett will officiate. Her visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am also on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fondulac Township Cemetery in East Peoria.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sunnyland Church or First Christian Church of Creve Coeur.
