

Maida C. Jacobs, 105, of East Peoria, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria. Maida’s family wishes to acknowledge and thank Rosewood Care Center; VITAS Healthcare, Peoria; and Dr. John Shepherdson and staff of Morton, for their compassionate and dedicated care of our mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Maida Catherine was born February 10, 1910, in Peoria, IL, to William G. and Leora Mae (Kerr) Schleigh. She married Levi D. Jacobs on October 12, 1929, at the Howett Street Christian Church in Peoria. Together they survived the Great Depression, the years of World War II, and the joys and challenges of being late-in-life parents. Maida was a dedicated homemaker known for doting on her grandchildren, baking delicious pies, and being an avid Pinochle player. She was preceded in death by her husband Levi; her three brothers Glen, Grant, and Jack Schleigh; and her very special sister, Bess Astle. Maida is survived by her children Carol Bolander of Morton, Gail Jacobs of East Peoria, and Dan (Marcy) Jacobs of Kimberling, MO; her grandchildren, Lisa Johnson, Nancy Ramsey, Michael (Jeanine) Jacobs, Mark (Lillian) Jacobs; her great-grandchildren Zachary Jacobs, Jill Jacobs, Jai Johnson, Levi Ramsey; nieces and nephews Sandra (Phil) Hess, Larry (Michelle) Astle, John Astle, Bess Hopple; the Milton Jacob family of Manito; and special friend, Suzanne Jacobs. Services for Maida will be private. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to South Side Mission in Peoria which was a cause dear to Maida’s heart.
