He was born June 2, 1931 in Stevens Point, WI to Wright and Susan (Hoffman) Vaughn. He first married Evelyn McElhaney and they had one daughter, Victoria (Kenneth) Immesoete of Green Valley, AZ. He then married Beverly Rambow on Jan. 18, 1954 in Peoria. She survives along with two daughters: Victoria (Tim Osborn) Vaughn of Wisconsin, Cheryl (Kent) Broadbent of Annawan, IL, one son, Dr. Steven Vaughn of Jupiter, FL, six grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Paul and Eugene, and three sisters: Mary, Jeanette, Rosemarie, and one grandson.
Norbert was a United States Army Veteran. He first worked at Caterpillar, Inc. during the 1950’s and 1960’s. During that time he also owned and operated North Side Auto sales and Klean Kar Auto Sales in Peoria. He and his wife also owned and operated Vaughn Rentals until his retirement.
He set many records as a high school basketball player, and followed high school and college basketball his whole life.
He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Peoria and the Morton American Legion Post 318.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 5, 2018 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. A Funeral Mass will be Friday, July 6, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St Ann’s Catholic Church in Peoria.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in West Peoria.
