In Loving Memory of the Matriarch
A child of the Great Depression, Betty Branum Marshall, left the world better than she found it Wednesday, September 23.
Born with her major organs reversed, Betty’s heart resided on the right side of her chest. Medical professionals would describe this as a rare genetic condition but to know her would be to acknowledge God’s desire for spare room on the left side to accommodate the abundance of love, grace, mercy and compassion bestowed to others.
In her final years and throughout a lifetime of finest days, Betty led a fiercely independent life, most recently at the base of Taylor Ridge where she spent her time in prayer, conversation and hospitality to others.
Betty raised her family with all the grace and charm of a true southern lady. During the best of times, she taught them to BE generous, joyful and humble. During the worst of times, she taught them to BE faithful and forgiving.
Betty’s devotion to her family, humor, infectious smile, and knack for “telling it like it was” were only out shadowed by her love for the Lord.
Psalm 25: 4
Show me Your ways, O Lord;
Teach me Your paths.
Lead me in Your truth and teach me,
For You are the God of my salvation;
On You I wait all the day.
