Billy E. "Gene" Mason

Gene was born on March 26, 1931 in Athens, Tennessee. He graduated from Central High School and in 1950, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in the Korean Conflict. Upon completion of his duty in 1954 he moved back to Chattanooga where he worked for E. I. du Pont commonly referred to as Dupont for over 40 years.

Gene was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, Shriners Temple, American Legion Post 95 and was of the Baptist faith.

Gene was preceded in death by his mother, Rosine C. Mason; father, Martin V. Mason; and beloved granddog, Sampson.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara B. Mason and daughter, Gina L. Mason both of Chattanooga. He is known as Papa to our beloved Pomeranian, Cody. Also surviving are his brothers, Robert M. Mason of Earlton, FL. and G. David (Martha) Mason of Chattanooga; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends from the American Legion Post 95.

Visitation will be from 1 to 6 PM on Saturday and from 3:30 to 4:30 PM on Sunday at the funeral home.

Funeral Services will be at 4:30 PM on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at the funeral home with Chaplain Lester Norton and Pastor Angie McGregor officiating.

Private burial services will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with military honors in the Old Rugged Cross Garden.

Pallbearers will by Mike Mason, George V. Morgan, Michael Cawood, Red Garner, Jim Sewell and Gene Jones.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society (6221 Shallowford Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421) or American Legion Post 95 (3329 Ringgold Road, Chattanooga, TN 37412).
