

Byron Dewayne Hulgan, 67, a lifelong resident of Lookout Valley passed away Sunday, August 7, 2016 at his home. Byron was a loving servant of friends and family and was preceded in death by his father, Luther D. Hulgan. He will be missed by his wife of 41 years, Sherry McBryar Hulgan; son, Ashley (Kimmy); daughter, Kristin; mother, Tobey L. Hulgan; in-laws, Kenneth and Betty McBryar; brother Alan (Martha) Hulgan; nephew, James (Gretchen) Hulgan; niece, Rebecca (Todd) Banus as well as many cousins.
He was a longtime member and deacon of Lookout Valley Baptist Church where he gave of himself to serve others for many years. His soul now rests with his heavenly Father.
He was a graduate of Central High School and Chattanooga State and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from TVA after 44 years of loyal service. He also volunteered at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Byron Enjoyed golf, hiking, running, bicycling, canoeing, kayaking and camping, but he especially enjoyed the fellowship with others that these activities provided. He loved the beauty of the mountains and forests, and he always sought to instill this appreciation in others.
He was a man of wisdom and knowledge, a humorist and storyteller. He always “warmed both hands before the fire of life” and will always be greatly loved and missed by family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM Tuesday, August 9 at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday at the funeral home chapel with Tom Kilgore and The Rev. Troy Walliser officiating. Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Friends of the Smokies in Byron’s memory.
