Carol Ann DeSha Dunn (also known as Mother, Momma, Mamaw, Huggie) was born on July 10,1937 and went home to be with her Lord on January 25, 2025 after fighting extended illnesses. Her last church family is that of Northside Baptist Church, but she spent her whole life in churches. She was saved when she was a young girl. She devoted her life to being a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a friend to many; but most importantly, a servant to the Lord. She loved the Lord with all her heart and was never in doubt of her salvation.
Carol married her high school sweetheart Donald E. Dunn on June 24,1955. Their 69 years of marriage were full of laughter, love, and following the Lord’s call wherever he sent them. As a pastor’s wife, Carol was dearly loved and appreciated by church members everywhere they served. She served the Lord in all ways, providing all she could to ministries in their churches. She loved her church families as much as her own and that love was always reciprocated.
She graduated from Kirkman Vocational High School in 1955. However, her greatest achievements involved her family. Her biggest accomplishment was being a devoted wife to her husband for 69 years, loving and surviving through life's challenges. In addition, she raised three successful daughters and loved them fiercely. Her last achievement was becoming a grandmother and great-grandmother to so many. Carol loved her family and spent as much time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren loving and raising them in only a way she could. Her family was her pride and joy and those survived by her stand as her greatest monuments.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents Kathleen Elkins Desha Rich and Clyde Paris DeSha; her step father Frank Rich and her sisters Jeanie Chandler and Linda Meade.
She is survived by all those who love her and will miss her dearly, her husband Donald E. Dunn; daughters Kathy Harris, Melody Miller (Nick), and Angela Reaves (Mitchell); grandchildren Chuck, Melissa (Charlie), Jeremy (Rita), Kitty (Mike), Josh (Rebecca), Lauren (Kase), Michael (Kaylynn); great-grandchildren Allie, Savannah, Lilli, Elena, Zoe, Coralee, Linus, Michaela, Emma, Christian, Noah, Daniel, Kasey, Maverick, Nova, Eleanor and Amelia; and all of her beloved nieces and nephews.
Your dedication to being our mother, mamaw, and huggie, will never be forgotten. Your love, care, and compassion for us lives on in us. You made us who we are today and we would never be the same without you. Thank you for always being the one we could count on and loving us unconditionally through all our faults. It is our prayer that we show love to others the way we saw you show love all your life. We love you and look forward to the day we are reunited again in heaven.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday January 26, 2025 at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road East Ridge, Tennessee. Burial will be in the Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-8 PM Monday at the funeral home. Please share your thoughts and memories at www.ChattanoogaEastChapel.com.
