

He was born to Hazel Mitchell Cotter and Hugh Patrick Cotter, Sr. on January 7, 1925. A Lifelong resident of Chattanooga, he attended Notre Dame High School, St. Bernard College in Cullman, Alabama, and the University of Chattanooga. He served in the Naval Air Force in WWII in the Pacific. He was a charter member of St. Stephen Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Club.
He was in the retail liquor business for over 25 years and later retired from the City of Chattanooga in 1990. He loved the game of golf and taught all five of his children to play. Hugh played golf for over 50 years and was a long standing member of Brainerd and Brown Acres golf courses. He loved nothing more than to play golf with his wife and family. They have years of precious memories of family golf matches.
He was preceded in death by three infant children; and two brothers, Tom and Terry Cotter.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bettye Cotter; daughter, Beth (Butch) Gross; sons, Michael (Mary Jane), Steve, Brian, and Joe (Pamela) Cotter. Also, five grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation with be from 4 to 8 PM on Monday at the funeral home with a 7:30 Prayer Service.
There will be a Funeral Mass held at 11 AM on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at St. Stephen Catholic Church with Rev. Gilbert M. Diaz officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. With military honors provide by VVA Post 203.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the Hospice Team who cared for Hugh throughout his extended illness.
