

Richard Jackson “Jack” Grant, 86, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 3, 2009 in a local hospital. Born September 28, 1923, Jack was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, residing in the “home place” until he moved to Carestone Assisted Living in 2005.Jack was a WWII veteran having served in the U.S. Army Air Force. He followed his father in Commercial Construction as a Foreman with Mark K. Wilson Construction Company and later became a partner in the Adams Construction Company until his retirement. He was a member of Chamberlain Memorial Baptist Church. He belonged to the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for 62 years and was a member of the American Legion Post #14.He was the primary caregiver for his mother during the final two years of her life. Jack was deeply loved and appreciated by his family.Jack was preceded in death by his parents, William R. and Myrtle Chelette Grant and his twin brother, John W. (Bill) Grant.He is survived by two brothers, Raymond Grant and Jay Grant and wife, Margie, of Chattanooga; two sisters, Lois Greer of Rossville, GA and Doris DeLoach and husband David of Waco, TX; sister-in-law, Bobbie Standefer Grant of Chattanooga. Nephews include John (Jane) Grant of Chattanooga, Monty (Melody) Grant of Ocala, FL and David (Bobbie) Grant and their daughters, Meri and Ashley of Wilmore, KY. Nieces include Betsy Grant of Monteagle, Janet Embrey of Fallston, MD, Judy (Rick) Driggans and son Andy of Chattanooga and Susan (Dewayne) Roberson and twin sons Grant and Jonathan of Trenton, GA. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sunday, December 6 at Chamberlain Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Jake E. Carroll and the Rev. Dewayne Roberson officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Joy Sunday School Class. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Saturday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 404 South Moore Road.The family is appreciative for the wonderful medical care provided by Hospice of Chattanooga and Parkridge Medical Center.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jack’s memory to Chamberlain Memorial Baptist Church, 4239 Benton Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37406.
