James was born December 20, 1958 to his loving mother Marilou B. Coats and father Fred H. Coats Jr. The second of 6 siblings, they lived in Chattanooga as a loving and devoted family. When James was 18 he moved to Texas where he met the love of his life and future bride Sylvia Y. Ortega (Bonnie), they made their lives together in TX where James worked at Sledd's plant nursery. He learned much about botanical care and more. James and Sylvia went on to have a daughter and son before moving back to Chattanooga TN to be close to family and friends.
After becoming settled in TN James went to work at C&D marble and College Dale case works, learning much about carpentry and putting it to good use in life making many things for friends and family both for home and enjoyment. Friends often called him Jim or Jimbo, he loved music and fishing but most of all good times and laughs with all those around him. He will be greatly missed!
James was preceded in death by his mother and father Marilou Coats and Fred H. Coats Jr, and brother Fred Joseph Coats. May they all find peace together on their next path.
James is survived by wife Sylvia (Bonnie) Coats, daughter Cyndi Coats,
