Chattanooga – Jerry Dean Cope, age 75, passed away peacefully at his home Friday, February 21, 2020. Jerry was born and raised in Independence, Missouri, spending most of his early, formative years at Drumm Farm for Boys. After graduating from William Chrisman High School in 1962, he moved his young family to Texas. After a brief stint working in finance, he accepted an opportunity to change careers and join Magic Chef. He subsequently moved over to the Roper Corporation, where he became one of the youngest Vice Presidents of Sales in the appliance industry, and ultimately retired from the corporate world at the age of 45.
Jerry had a life-long passion for the sport of golf, where his June 2017 hole-in-one shot at Brown Acres was celebrated by the many who witnessed. He loved family time, working in his yard and grilling out. He cherished his dogs and was an avid reader. You could always find him with a book in hand.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jewell and Helen Cope, and his brother, Gene Cope.
Survivors include his lovely wife of 57 years, Diane E. Cope; sons, Dan (Nancy) Cope of Irving, TX, Jon (Kim) Cope of Knoxville; daughter Michelle (Wendell) Weathers of Ooltewah; nephews, Jeffery Cope and Kirk Proulx; niece, Christy Burnside; grandchildren, Addie Cope, Kaitlyn Born, Christopher Bradbury, Lewis Weathers, Justin Weathers, Reagan Weathers, Haley Weathers, and Kelly Beach; great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Bradbury and Dale Cohlman.
A private ceremony with family will be held. Charitable donations may be made to The Chambliss Center for Children, 315 Gillespie Road, Chattanooga, TN 37411
