John Tate Doremus, 87, of East Ridge passed away Friday, August 26, 2011 at his home. He was a member of East Ridge United Methodist Church. John was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII and fought in five major battles. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star. John was retired from Dupont.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Iva Doremus; three brothers, Henry Doremus, Bill Doremus and Ray Doremus; one sister Silvia McCurry.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Doremus; children Sheila D. (Mike) Hammer, Keith (Olga) Doremus and Clifford Doremus; five grandchildren, Jonathan (Laura) Hammer, Ryan Doremus, Travis Doremus, Cody Doremus and Kevin Doremus; brother, Bob Doremus; two sisters, Josephine Mayberry and Ann Cooke.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Tuesday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist with the Rev. Ken Sauer officiating. Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery with Bill Doremus, David Cooke, Steve Scruggs, Dr. William Webb, Scott Hannah and Patrick Obrien serving as pallbearers . The family will receive friends from 2-5 Sunday and 6-8 Monday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga or to East Ridge United Methodist Church.
