Fay June Cox Chrisman, 90, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, November 9, 2016. She was born in Burrville, TN February 26, 1926 to John Robert Cox and Myrtle Dallas Davis Cox. Along with her sister, Alma Jane Cox Tate, the family moved to Ridgely, TN in 1927 where June lived until she left to attend UT in 1944. She received her degree in business education and fell in love with William Jackson Chrisman. They were married on June 12, 1949. Bill’s employer, Burroughs Corporation, took them to Knoxville, TN, Bristol VA, Lenoir City, TN, and back to Knoxville before settling in Chattanooga, TN.
June was a mother to William Jackson Chrisman, Jr. (Jack) and Carol Jane Chrisman Montgomery and actively participated in their lives as a school, scout, sports and church volunteer. June lived her faith daily and was an active member of her church whenever she went; settling eventually in Chattanooga at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, then Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church. She loved children, retiring from the Chattanooga Public School System after 19 years of teaching.
June loved her faith, her family and her friends. She made true friends wherever she went. A devoted wife, she and Bill loved to dance, play bridge, travel and live each day to the fullest. June was proud of her children, grandchildren, nieces, cousins and their spouses. She was an avid sports fan, particularly UTK, and loved to play card and board games, read and collect recipes. Finding the good in every situation and always maintaining her keen sense of humor attracted loyal friends. She will be greatly missed by all.
The family wants to thank the staff at Parkridge Hospital Third Floor West for their superb care and support.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her parents, Myrtle and John Cox, her sister, Jane and brother-in-law Billy Tate and her son-in-law, Philip Montgomery.
Left to cherish her memory are her son Jack and his wife, Judy; daughter, Carol; five grandchildren, Keith Chrisman and Katie Chrisman of Chattanooga and Ann, Jane and Maureen Montgomery of Dallas, TX; one great-grandchild, Tucker Chrisman; nieces, Linda Tate Woodsmall, Lydia Tate Belot, Annette Tate Steinauer and Diane Weber-Kneitel.
A celebration of June’s life will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, November 13 at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church with Rev. Margaret Ferguson officiating. The family will receive friends in the greeting room following the service. A family graveside service will be held on Monday at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church.
