Mary Sue (Linville) Pauley, born March 2, 1939, in Kanawha County, WV, was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, aunt, sister and sister-in-law. She passed away peacefully November 26, 2025, at the age of 86.
Mary was the cherished daughter of the late Nona Ellen (Kingery) Linville (1905-1992) and Odell Hershel Linville (1926-1943). She was one of seven siblings: Harold Linville (Phyllis), Gene Linville (Gloria), Sonny (Carol [still living]) Linville, Anna Gae (Linville) Rymer (Jimmy), and Larry Linville (Peggy) whom have all preceded her in death and Jerry Linville (Ann).
On August 28, 1959, Mary married the love of her life, Douglas M. Pauley of Joe's Creek, WV. Together, they shared a beautiful life and raised three daughters: Mona Elaine (Pauley) Yeary (Robert), Melissa Sue (Pauley) Battles (Danny), and Megan Rose (Pauley) Everett.
Mary's family was her greatest joy. She is survived by her grandchildren: Olivia (Hesterly) Carlisle (George), Jonathan Hesterly, Robin Yeary (Whitney), Benjamin Battles (Kelsey), Harrison Battles, Spencer Battles (Rachel), and Lily (Everett) Estill (Trae). Her legacy continues with her great-grandchildren: Emmaline (Carlisle) Wright (Cole), Adelaide Carlisle, Annalise Carlisle, Isabella Carlisle, Elizabeth Carlisle, Abrielle Carlisle, Evelyn Carlisle, IIliana Carlisle, Robert "Bo" Yeary, Valkyrie Yeary, James Estill, Brock Battles, Amelia “Milly” Dodson, and Hannah Battles, as well as her great-great-grandchildren Sadie Wright and Elijah Wright. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, including Michelle Linville of Ocoee, Florida.
Mary pursued her passion for beauty and entrepreneurship by attending beauty school and owning two salons, one in West Virginia and another in Chattanooga, TN. In 1967, she and Doug moved their family to Chattanooga, where Doug attended Tennessee Temple University and graduated in 1973.
A devout Christian, Mary was a longtime member of Highland Park Baptist Church, where she was profoundly influenced by the teachings of her favorite pastor, Dr. Lee Roberson. She was currently a member of Stanley Heights Baptist Church in East Ridge, TN.
When asked about her greatest accomplishment, Mary would humbly say it was knowing Christ as her Savior, encouraging her husband throughout his career and retirement, raising three children, and being blessed with a large and loving family.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hearth Hospice and the Visiting Angels for their loving care.
Visitation will be from 10 AM – 12 PM Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road.
