Michael T. McIntyre of Ringgold, GA passed away peacefully December 22, 2024, at Memorial Hospital after an extensive illness. Michael (Mike) was born on November 8, 1949, in Ojai, California to Gerald and Bonnie Jean McIntyre, their only child. After an honorable medical discharge from the US Marines in 1970, Mike attended the University of Tennessee where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree and later earned his degree in Special Education as well as his Master of Education degree. He met and married the love of his life, Linda Forsha, while attending UT Chattanooga. They married in January 1971, and later welcomed three daughters and a son.
During his vast career as an Educator, Mike worked at Orange Grove Center, Brainerd High School, and UTC. A man best described as having a huge heart only matched by his sense of humor, he was beloved by all who had the honor of knowing him. He was known to his children as Dad, but by so many others as teacher, professor, mentor, coach, spiritual leader, and more.
Mike was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic church in Chattanooga, TN. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus organization and took pride in the many charitable things he was able to orchestrate with them. After retiring from teaching, Mike loved the time he was able to spend in his workshop dubbed “G-Pa’s Wood Shop” where he made gifts for people including desks, tables, mementoes, etc. He was always so giving, it’s what gave him the most joy in life besides being with his beloved family.
He is survived by his wife of almost 54 years, Linda; his oldest daughter, Melissa McIntyre; his middle daughter, Melanie McIntyre Haley (Heath); his youngest daughter, Michelle McIntyre Hintz (James); his son, Patrick McIntyre; his two granddaughters, Jaime Shelton (Josh) and Brittany Kuykendall.
Our Dad will be dearly missed, he was the shining light of faith and love for our family. He was the most selfless man, and always gave his love unconditionally to all. We will love, honor, and remember you for eternity Dad.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 7th at Our Lady of Perpetual Help’s Holy Family Hall from 10:00-11:00 am, followed by a mass at 11:00.
Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road, East Ridge, Tennessee.
