Philip Peter Skovronski, born in Kenosha, WI, and a long-time resident of Chattanooga, TN passed away on February 18, 2026. He was described as the mayor of Panera Bread on Gunbarrel Road where he met many of his lifelong friends. He was a kind and generous man who loved to spend time playing golf and woodworking.
After graduating high school in 1951, Philip attended college at the University of Cincinnati where he played on the golf team. He was drafted and assigned to VF-121 “Detachment A,” Miramar, San Diego, California. Detachment A was specifically a sub-unit of Fighter Squadron VF-121 which was historically known as a significant Pacific Fleet Replacement Air Group. They were responsible for training flight and maintenance crews. This is where the Navy-famed “Top Gun” school originated in 1969. His service to our country will forever be etched in the history of the United States of America.
After his military service ended in 1958, Philip Skovronski, who was still an avid golfer, was largely responsible for a major shift in the golf industry. He introduced “investment casting” to golf club designing. He was featured in Golf Pro magazine for his design of a new line of clubs, the Keller 211. He developed investment cast putters for Arnold Parmer, Dunlop, and PGA lines.
He was preceded in death by his father Philip A. Skovronski, his mother Margaret Skovronski, and a sister.
A memorial service will be held Tues, March 10, 2026 at 10:00 am at the Chattanooga National Cemetery located at 1200 Bailey Ave Chattanooga, TN 37404.
Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road, East Ridge, Tennessee 37412.
