Robert Mercer Humphreys

Robert Mercer Humphreys, 86, of Chattanooga went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 21, 2011. He was a devout Christian, a member of Brainerd United Methodist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class. He was a graduate of Central High School class of 1943 and was retired as Vice President of Sales with Tuftco, Inc. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vinson and Lil Humphreys; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dennie and Grace Holloway, sister, Wanda Campbell and sister-in-law, Charlotte Humphreys.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Henrietta Holloway Humphreys; two sons, Rev. Dennie David (Sondra) Humphreys of Athens, TN and Robert Dale (Miriam) Humphreys of Chattanooga, TN; five grandchildren, Bobby (Wendy) Humphreys, Brent (Courtney) Humphreys, Lauren (Nathaniel) Lowe, Staci (Toby) Gibson and Lindsey Humphreys; six great-grandchildren Christian and Savannah Humphreys, Grace and Gabriel Lowe, John Humphreys and Van Gibson; brother, John (Debbie) Humphreys; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be private. There will be no visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Holston Home for Children or to Brainerd United Methodist Church.

Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 404 South Moore Road.
