

He was the son of the late Guy and Dosha Cox. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army. His career with Interstate Life spanned 39 years having worked in Pine Bluff, Arkansas as well as Chattanooga. He retired from Interstate Life in 1984. Mr. Cox was a former member of Central Baptist Chruch Woodmore and a Deacon of Ridgedale Baptist Church where he belonged to the Friendship Sunday School Class and served as a church usher.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Frances Cox, of Chattanooga; daughter, Cheri Payne and her husband, Danny Payne of Chattanooga; son, Roy Cox, Jr. and his wife, Sheilah Cox of Santa Ana, California; five grandchildren, Melissa (Andy) Barber, Michael Cox, Stacey Cox, Joey (Becky) Payne and Charity (Joel) Shiflett; six great-grandchildren, Christopher, Taylor, John, Daniel, Jake and Hailey; sister, Joyce Westlake of Little Rock, Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1:30 PM in the East Chapel with Dr. Bill Owens officiating. Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Ridgedale Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class.
