Valerah was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved her church, Lookout Valley Presbyterian and her church family. She was very active in her church serving in numerous positions within the church and she most enjoyed singing in the choir. Valerah retired from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga after 30+ years of dedicated service in the purchasing department.
Valerah was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Mary Frances Painter, and her sister, Pat Hurst.
Left behind to cherish Valerah’s memory are children, Tom (Cheryl) Hodges, Melanie Carter, and Michelle (John) Sewell, grandchildren, Chad Dagnan; Caleb Sewell; Chandler Carter; and Noah Hodges, brother, Bill Voelkel, and many dear friends.
A Celebration of Valerah’s’s Life will be held at Lookout Valley Presbyterian Church on Tuesday June 29, 2021 @ 1:30 pm with Pastor Grady Davidson officiating. The family will receive friends at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Monday evening June 28, 2021 from 4 to 8 pm. Valerah will be laid to rest in the Lakewood Memory Gardens West.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the caring and compassionate staff at Hospice of Chattanooga and all her friends and family, especially her church family.
