

Houston was a member of Rivermont Presbyterian church and retired from Hamilton County Auditing and Safety department after many years of service. His friends always said he could discuss any subject matter you desired. He was an avid reader with a book always by his chair. Houston loved working in his yard and enjoyed all sports especially football, basketball and golf. Houston volunteered in the Navy during World War II serving in the South Pacific Ocean and China for over three years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Lorena Elrod and Nancye Cunningham McNeese as well as their husbands and one nephew Taylor.
Houston is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dortha Bryan Igou and they enjoyed those wonderful years together. He is also survived by nephew’s Sanford Cunningham and his children, Ronald Cunningham (Sharon) and his children, a niece, Melanie (Ron) Frere and their children, and Dortha's many nieces and nephews who adored him including Betty Passons and John Rogers of Chattanooga and Carl McDaniel of Nashville.
A Celebration of Houston’s life will be held in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Sunday August 23rd at 1 p.m. with Pastor Clay Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 11 a.m. up until service time. He will be laid to rest in the Forest Hill Cemetery.
