

Born on October 2, 1930 in Manhattan New York, he was the son of the late Hermann and Martha (Kaiser) Sonntag.
Bernard was a Staff Sargent in the United States Army and served in the Korean War earning various medals including the Korean Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a proud member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters for 59 years. Bernard enjoyed karate, classical music, hiking, reading and mostly being a part of the Bushkill Reform Church.
In addition to his wife Akiko, he is survived by sons; Mitchell Sonntag and his wife Maraya of Effort and Steve Sonntag of New York; nephew Victor Pignata and his wife Alicia of Florida; Great niece Diana Pignata of Florida.
He was predeceased by his sister Hildegard Pignata Etri.
Services will be held on Monday May 16, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the Reformed Church of Bushkill; 5969 Milford Rd East Stroudsburg. Friends and family may call from 9:00AM until the time of service. A public visitation will be held on Sunday May 15, 2016 from 1:00PM-3:00PM at the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home 27 Washington St. East Stroudsburg. Burial will be at the Sand Hill Cemetery.
