Born in Tulsa 88 years ago to Alva & Ethel Riddle. He was drafted into Army Air Corp at age 18. He served during WWII in many European countries. He met and married Helen Linner. He reared 2 step daughters and they had one son, Alva Jr. After the loss of his first wife, he married Barbara (Cox) Freshour and became “POPS” to her four kids.
During his long life, he worked in appliance repair with his dad. He drove for various Van Lines many years and then started Riddle’s Import Serv. He worked for the OK Dept of Libraries until retirement. Later he spent much time on the restoration of his beloved 1928 Model A Fords. He belonged to the Sooner Ford Club and the Okie A’s, holding the office of President in both clubs. He served as Patrolman at beautiful Lake Hiwassee for several years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Maxine and Nadine, son Alva Jr. “Butch” and step daughter, Carol Johnson. Survivors include wife Barbara of 34 years, sisters Betty Spence and Earlene Rendeluk. Step daughters, Sue Hart, Carol Cain, Cynde Shackelford, step sons, Walt and Charles Freshour and their spouses, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He spent precious moments with the grandchildren that gave him special joy. Friends and family will miss him very much.
Donations may be made to American Diabetes Assn. or Edmond Animal Shelter. Visitation will be at Baggerley, Sunday, Dec. 11 from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Services will be 2:00 pm, Monday, December 12, 2011 at the Baggerley Funeral Home Chapel.
