

Barbara Ann (McDaniel) Douglas, also known as Mimi to her grandchildren, passed away from this life on November 22, 2013, at the age of 66 following a courageous battle with cancer. At the time of her passing, Barbara was surrounded by friends and family. Barbara was born May 27, 1947, in Pratt, Kansas to Lola Katherine and Orval L. McDaniel. Barbara enjoyed garage sailing, antiquing, and gardening and spent many days until sundown planting and watering. Her home was always decorated for every holiday with Christmas being her favorite in honor of her love for Christ. Barbara especially enjoyed all of the time spent with her best friend and husband “Coach” Don and their grandchildren in their various interests. She cherished each one of them dearly. Barbara was a passionate and loving Christian who extended compassion and thoughtfulness to everyone she met.
Barbara moved with her family to Bethany, Oklahoma at an early age as her father Orval, a Nazarene preacher, was working on his PhD in theology at Bethany-Peniel College. She attended Bethany High School, however, attended Putnam City original her senior year where she graduated in 1965. Barbara met her husband Don “Coach” during her senior year of high school and married him following graduation. They would later have three daughters, Shelly, Shawna, and Amy.
Barbara spent many years as a “softball” mom to her three daughters as well as countless other girls playing on tournament and traveling softball teams. Barbara, Don “Coach”, and the three girls moved many times throughout her life, living in Texas, Florida, Georgia, Arizona, and Oklahoma. Barbara retired from Globe Life Insurance in 2008 where she worked off and on for over twenty five years. At the time of her death, Barbara was employed with her husband Don “Coach” as a bus driver for the Edmond Public School District.
Barbara lost her father Orval McDaniel when she was only eight years old. Also preceding her in death were her mother Lola (McDaniel) Blair, stepfather J.L. Blair, and a brother, Dean McDaniel. Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Don Douglas, three daughters, Shelly Douglas and her fiancé Trent Barnes, Shawna Ward and husband Edmond, and Amy Douglas, two step-sisters, Linda Billen and Darlene Collins, six grandchildren, Matthew Farthing, Madison Farthing, Kelsie Witt, Tori Villanueva, Tyler Villanueva, and Kristina Villanueva, eight nephews and nieces, Kelly Gottsponer and husband Glen, Melissa Hobbs and husband Nathan, Christopher McDaniel, David McDaniel, Robert (Donnie) Colton, Jennifer Colton, Andi Billen and husband Greg and Angela Clary, 6 great nephews and nieces, Alexander Hobbs, Micheal Vick, Jonathan Vick, Carter Billen, Hunter Mills and Blair Mills and a host of other family members and dear friends.
The family would like to thank all of Barbara’s doctors, nurses, and other staff at the Integris Cancer Institute with special thanks to Dr. Johnny McMinn, Barbara Baldwin, Leslie Settle, and Sheila Wilkerson as well as Helene Ortiz with the Integris Edmond ICU.
