In loving memory of Carolyn Halliburton, a remarkable woman who passed away at the age of 72. Born in Edmond in Oklahoma’s heartland, she embodied a “cowgirl’s ethos” showing gumption, compassion, self-reliance and grit throughout her life’s journey. She was also a proud member of the Citizens Potawatomi Nation.
Carolyn left Oklahoma to pursue her college education in Colorado where as an ardent skier, she lived for many years in the mountains. She met her husband Michael in Denver and soon thereafter embarked on a new adventure in Chicago. She came to New Mexico to retire before returning to Oklahoma to care for her mother.
While Carolyn had no children of her own, she poured her love and affection into her nieces and nephews, becoming a cherished and influential figure in their lives. Her legacy continues by her example and in the values she imparted to them.
Her generous spirit extended beyond human connections; her dogs were steadfast companions. Carolyn was a dedicated advocate for animal rescue and particularly passionate about the well-being of Beagles. Her heart knew no bounds when it came to providing shelter, comfort and care to these beloved creatures.
Carolyn manifested a bias for action. She enjoyed working out with others, loved gardening, camping and the outdoors. Recently, she rekindled her love for golfing, demonstrating that age could never limit her enthusiasm for life. At age 69, she hiked up New Mexico’s Wheeler Peak (elevation 13,161 feet) by herself; a testament to her fortitude and single mindedness.
Carolyn was known for her beauty, radiant smile, and her unwavering positivity. She exuded boundless energy, an eagerness to shoulder responsibility, and the initiative to act on her convictions. Carolyn embodied the virtues of honesty, generosity, reliability, and a relentless drive to make a difference. Her determination in the face of challenges is an inspiration to all who knew her.
As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate a life well-lived with humility, unwavering enthusiasm and love of God, family, community and friends. As we continue to embrace life's adventures, may we take as inspiration the enduring power of Carolyn’s determination and kindness; her ability to make a difference in the lives of others; her capacity to love fiercely, and her gift in finding joy in the simple pleasures.
Memorial services for Carolyn will be held Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 2:00 PM, at Luther First Christian Church, 415 E. 1st Street, Luther, OK 73054
