

Don graduated from Drury High School in North Adams, MA in 1954. He enlisted in the Army in February of 1955. Don was stationed first in England and then sent to Korea. When he returned to Massachusetts during Christmastime of 1959, he reconnected with a friend named Carol O’Brien whom he had known since he was 8 years old. They married 9 months later on July 9, 1960.
Don and Carol moved to Anniston, AL when he was stationed at Ft. McClellan. A year later, on May 4, 1961 their first daughter, Susan, was born. The family was next sent to Ft Hood, TX for a short period, and then stationed in Germany at Aschaffenburg and Darmstadt. In 1966, Don was deployed on his first tour to Vietnam. He came home in 1967 for a short time and was stationed at White Sands Missile Base, NM. Don and Carol were blessed with their second daughter, Leslie on July 29, 1968. Donald returned to Vietnam shortly after Leslie’s birth for his second military tour. When Don returned from Vietnam, he spent two years in Vincennes, IN completing an Associate’s Degree at Vincennes University. After school, Donald was then sent to Ft. Sill, OK with his family and finished his military career.
He retired from the Army in 1977 as final ranking officer, Chief Warrant Officer 3. The military awarded Donald the following: Army Sharp Shooter 1959; Purple Heart; Bronze Star with Acorns; Armed Forces Air Medal; and the Gallantry Cross Medal.
After the military, Donald began his career at Goodyear Tire Company in Lawton, OK as an electrical engineer. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree at Cameron University in Lawton, OK in 1980. In 1989, Don and Carol moved to Kingston Ontario, Canada for a job with Goodyear in Napanee, Canada. Don enjoyed traveling around the country in his spare time. In late 1995, Don was transferred with Goodyear to Statesville, NC where he completed his career and retired in May 1999.
In his retirement, Don enjoyed working part-time at a local hardware store and substitute teaching at a local elementary school. In 2006, the couple again relocated to Edmond, OK to be closer to their daughters and grandsons.
Donald’s hobbies included being an avid shooter and marksman. He was a history buff and enjoyed all genres, especially military history. He loved animals and children.
Don is preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Milton, Jason, Eddie, Sidney, Bernard, and Helen.
He is survived by his wife Carol; daughter Susan and husband Scott; daughter Leslie and husband Mark; grandsons, Dalton and Alex.
