Born August 13, 1930, at 1119 S. 15th Street, Parsons, Kansas. This was my maternal grandparent’s home, Harvey and Estelle Laymon. My parents lived there for a while. A depression was going on in our country and was about over. There was war over the horizon for the USA (World War II).
My grandmother Laymon taught me about the Lord and that Jesus Christ loved me. What a special person she was in my life. She died when I was only 6 years old.
My dad worked for the Katy (MKT) railroad. He was a section foreman. We moved away from Parsons by the time I was around 12 years old. We moved to Oklahoma in 1944/1945. We lived in Witcher, Oklahoma, for several years.
I met a young man in 1946. His name was J.B. Simpson. He invited me to his church in Oklahoma City, a Baptist Mission from Kelham Avenue Baptist Church. It became Plainview Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. While it was yet a Mission Church, I went forward in belief and faith and was baptized in June of 1947. My friend, JB, rededicated his life at that time, and we started out with an even footing and faith together. It was another year before we married.
During that year, JB built a house for us. He was working for the City of Oklahoma City. I loved his parents; they were very good to me. I worked at St. Anthony Hospital before we married. We raised eight children together, have 13 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
I love my family very much, and my only hope is that each one will have a solid relationship with our Lord and Savior. There’s nothing better than to know you will spend Eternity with Him, and all it takes is to have faith in Him.
I lost my husband February 26, 1999. We lacked one month and one day of being married 51 years. I miss him terribly, but will see him again someday.
