Fred was the fifth child born to Lawrence Jewel Large and Nettie Almeda Beeson of McLoud, OK. Fred was born and grew up in McLoud, graduating from McLoud High School, where he was captain of the basketball team. He pursued his basketball career at St. Gregory’s College in Shawnee and later attended Central State College, now UCO. Fred was a proud member of the U.S. Army National Guard and completed basic training in Ft. Polk, LA and later assigned to Ft. Sill, OK.
Fred met the love of his life, Ann Gibson Brown, of Tulsa, and they were married on September 3, 1966. Two children were born to this union, Chad Large (Kim) of Sapulpa and Sisney Large of OKC. Additionally, two grandchildren completed their circle of life.
Fred was a dedicated business owner and the last business he started and sold due to health, still operates today, Agnew Door Company. The last 20 plus years of his life brought many health challenges and Fred conquered all of them but COVID. Forced into early retirement, Fred and Ann traveled, enjoyed their timeshares and many, many musical concerts. Being children of the 60’s, music played a big role in their lives. Their faith was extremely important to them both and they are members of Chisholm Creek Baptist Church.
Fred enjoyed his life and considered himself blessed by God’s good fortune. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He knew and exhibited the message that “it’s better to give than receive”. Fred will be missed by a host of family and good friends.
Preceding Fred in death were his parents, brothers Herbert and Earnest and beloved sister Jenetta Sumner. Fred is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ann Large, his children and grandchildren. In addition, a sister, Bonnie Kubiak, OKC and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Fred leaves behind two special people, Mother-in-Law, Barbee Brown of Tulsa and Brother-in-Law, Don Sumner, Shawnee.
In lieu of flowers, Fred would encourage you to “pay it forward”. Buy lunch for the people behind you in the fast food lane, contribute to the neighborhood food pantry or foster a homeless dog. God is good.
