

He was born to Dewey Robert Carlin and Mayme Howell Carlin, on January 30, 1938, in Beaumont, TX where Gordon and the family would stay close through his high school graduation from South Park High School in 1956. He would graduate with his Bachelor’s degree from Lamar University, and then venture north to the University of Oklahoma where he received his Master’s degree.
After his honorable service to his country, with the United States Army, Gordon would settle into a lifetime career of teaching. Beginning at Texas A&I in Kingsville, TX then on to the University of Southwest Louisiana in Lafayette, LA.
In 1965 he married, Sarah Susan Stout of San Antonio, TX where they started their family in Louisiana. With son, Gordon, Jr and daughter Catherine, the family would move to Norman, Oklahoma, in 1968 where Gordon would head back to OU to start work on his Doctorate Degree and would start teaching Business Management at Oklahoma City University.
He would then start his career at Central State College (now the University of Central Oklahoma) in, Edmond, OK in 1971. The couple then added daughter, Sara to the family. During those years, Gordon, was very active in coaching little league sports, Scouting and was the mascot for Edmond Memorial High School, along with his bulldog partners, Spike and Sparkle.
Retiring from his teaching in 1992, he would remain an active fan of sports, from Edmond Memorial, UCO Broncho’s, and OU Sooners to the Dallas Cowboys. He loved to snow ski, square dance, collect commemorative Coke bottles, toy trucks, lunch boxes, and other memorabilia.
Preceded in death by parents, Dewey and Mayme Carlin, Gordon is survived by son CSM Gordon Earl Carlin, Jr. and wife, Tonya, daughters, Dr. Catherine Frances Carlin and husband, Jay, and Sara Linn Chilcutt, and husband Scott. Grandchildren, Mackenzie Kaye Bonny, Jackylin Rae Carlin and Sarah Sophia Carlin-Embree and great grandson, Ke’Shon Ezra Newton. Gordon is also survived by his brothers, Dewey Robert Carlin and wife Billie of Friendswood, TX, as well as identical twin and best friend, John Howell Carlin and wife Barbara of Beaumont, TX, the mother of his children, former wife, Sarah Susan McCutchan along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

A Celebration of Life dinner will be held later at Gordon’s favorite restaurant, Red Lobster, where friends and family will be invited to wear plaid shirts and suspenders in Dad’s honor.
In lieu of flowers, please take your family to Red Lobster for dinner or your kids to McDonald’s.
