

Hazel Amelia Cole, age 94, passed peacefully with her family present on June 5, 2011 in Edmond Oklahoma. She was born January 22, 1917 in Fairfax, Oklahoma where she resided until 1957, at which time she moved to Edmond. She earned her Bachelors and her Master’s degrees in Education at then Central State University. During her career, she was recognized as being an outstanding Teacher of the Year for Yukon Public Schools. She taught elementary education until her retirement in 1979. She served as a member of the following organizations; The American Legion, Business and Professional Women, Delta Kappa Gamma, Kappa Kappa Iota, Oklahoma County Extension Club, and the United Methodist Church of Edmond. After her retirement she enjoyed traveling and volunteerism. She was preceded in death by her husband Pfc. Robert Dale Cole, 1945; mother and father; two siblings and a grandson. She is survived by her brother, Charles Witty and family of Stroud, OK; cousin, Jack Shanklin of Stillwater; three children, Dalene Thomas and Diana Faulkner of Edmond, Robert and Jeanie Cole of Broken Arrow, Kathryn Sue and Jeff Young of Edmond; grandchildren, Lesa Haggard of Texas, Leann and Eddie Erwin of Broken Arrow, Cole Young, Bruce and Jacque Young of Edmond, Robbie Cole (deceased), Jodi and Bill Robinson of Tulsa, Kyle Cole of Tulsa, Tyler Cole of Tulsa; great Grandchildren, Hayden, Ian and Kedryn Haggard, Jordan Erwin, Clarissa and Benjamin Young, Hannah Robinson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Service will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at First United Methodist Church at 305 E. Hurd in Edmond with interment at Fairfax Cemetery in Fairfax, Ok. A special thanks to Hazel’s caregivers at The Sterling House, especially Mary Dobbs and Shirley White for their love, care and support of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice or First United Methodist Church in Edmond.
