Mary Ann was born in Tecumseh, Oklahoma, on March 1, 1930, to Mary Ann (Robison) Nisbett and Henry Asp Nisbett. She graduated with a Bachelor’s from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. Mary Ann worked in the oil and gas business while her husband was in the Air Force and stationed in Korea. For many years, she lived in Tecumseh, Warr Acres, and Oklahoma City.
She married C. Patrick (Pat) Curtin on March 17, 1951. They had three children. Mary Ann and Pat started their family in Oklahoma City while Pat worked in the oilfield chemical business, which then took them to Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta, Canada; to Houston, Texas; and finally to the tri-cities, Hurst-Euless-Bedford, near Ft. Worth, Texas; where she lived before returning to Oklahoma City.
After a career as a stay-at-home mom, Girl Scout leader, homeroom mom, Presbyterian Women’s Circle and garden club member, Mary Ann went to work and retired from the Oklahoma Department of Education. She was a loving and fun mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Her greatest pleasure was her family. Mary Ann enjoyed hosting family and holiday dinners, crafting everything, attending her children’s and grandchildren’s events, and sequestering herself to drink wine, eat cheese and crackers, and read.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, and husband. She is survived by her children, Nancy Kelly of Edmond, Oklahoma; Kelli Curtin of Ashburn, Virginia; and Patrick Curtin and his wife Laurie of Fairfax, Virginia; and her sister, Nancy Carol Nisbett of Edmond, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; cousins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary Ann would have chosen to be returned to a library because she so loved books and reading; however, in lieu of a library return…a graveside gathering will be held on Saturday, February 9, at 11:00am, Tecumseh Cemetery, under the direction of Baggerley Funeral Home, 930 S Broadway, Edmond, Oklahoma 73034, 405-341-3737.
