Albert Joseph Ouimet

Albert Joseph Ouimet, age 74, long time resident of Stony Plain, AB, and more recently of Onoway, passed away after a two year struggle with COPD, at the Westlock Continuing Care Center on Friday, August 28, 2026. Albert was born Feb 28, 1952, the fourth child of Hilaire Ernest Ouimet and Laura Georgiana (Boivin) Ouimet, in Edmonton, AB.

Following high school, Albert developed a career in operating heavy duty equipment for road construction and maintenance. He took great pride in becoming a respected, skilled operator and crew supervisor, eventually operating a successful road grading service in the Fox Creek area.

Albert valued family members, close friends, and work relationships. In his private time, he was an avid fan of collectible old cars, and loved riding motorcycles. When not working, he would spend hours just riding the roadways sometimes accompanied by his wife Betty Ann and sometimes on his own. A well known motorcycle saying encapsulates how he felt about motorcycles: “Four wheels move the body, Two wheels move the soul”.

He could be funny, brash, stubborn, exacting and caring, sometimes within the same 10 minute time span! He lived honest to himself while wanting others in his life to succeed as best they could.

Albert was predeceased by his parents, Hilaire Ernest Ouimet and Laura Georgiana Boivin, and his sister Laurette Cecile Ouimet (Nouwen/Brenneis). He is survived by his son Terry Ouimet (Bonnie Graham) and granddaughter Caitlin Ouimet, his sister Lucille Caroline Landals (Duane Landals), and brothers Paul Emile Ouimet (of Onoway) and Ernest Henri Ouimet.

Albert was born and raised in Edmonton. Albert and Betty developed an acreage home in the Carvel area where they lived for an extended time. After Betty’s death in 2019, Albert sold the acreage, and went visiting close friends in Alberta, Saskatchewan and BC. He arrived at Campbell River, BC, just at the start of the Covid pandemic, and remained there during the quarantine period. While there, he was visiting a close friend, Theresa Edwards and made several new, valued friendships. He loved being at Theresa’s ocean side residence, watching cruise ships floating past from the apartment’s front room window. During this time, Theresa’s disability condition worsened, and he became a significant person in her personal care. Albert was hospitalized in August 2024 at Campbell River for end stage COPD. After Theresa’s death in January 2025, Albert was sufficiently recovered to allow him to be transported home to his sister Lucille’s home at Onoway. In May 2025 he entered the care facility at the Westlock Continuing Care Center.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the Care Team there for their compassionate and supportive care for Albert.
