Al was born in and completed his grade schooling in Regina. He attended the University of Saskatchewan and was one of the first people in Canada to obtain Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate degrees from the same university. He was a highly accomplished Geological Engineer and worked in that field for 45 years in Saskatchewan, Ontario and Alberta, including a stint as a professor at Brock University.
While he was a man of many interests, one of Al’s main passions was travel. He loved to travel with his family throughout Canada and the world. He made many camper and motorhome trips through Canada and the US as well as a motorhome convoy to Mexico. He also took several cruises to the Caribbean, the Amazon, Hong Kong, Singapore and river cruises in England and on the St Lawrence. Other notable destinations were Hawaii, Australia, Costa Rica, China and an African safari.
He had a wealth of knowledge and was a great listener. Whenever someone sought his advice he was always willing to impart his wisdom and help out. His kindness, gentleness, mischievousness and that smile accompanied by the twinkle in his blue eyes will be dearly missed.
Al was predeceased by his parents Maik (Mike) and Nastasia(Nettie) Lissey, his brother Andy and his sister Sonia Curry. However, his most profound losses were his wife Robina, son Michael and daughter Susan.
Al will be forever loved, deeply missed and always remembered.
A Funeral Service will be held at Memories Funeral Home and Crematorium, 13403 St Albert Trail, Edmonton, AB, T5L4X1, CA, on September 13, 2026, from 11:00 am.
