Ana will forever be missed by her daughter, Anica; grandchildren, Rosa (Michael), Anita (Scott), and Tina (Tim); and great grandchildren, Zina, Zenon, Mya, Sadie, and Ellie. Ana will also be dearly missed by her grandchildren back home in Europe, Aranka (Luka) and Irenka (Zolika), and great grandchildren, Marko, Jovan, Bojan, and Maja. Ana was predeceased by her husband, Franjo Matus and daughter, Marica Salac. Moreover, she will be missed by countless relatives and friends from around the world.
Born on September 4, 1922, in Maradik, Srijem, Ana was the only daughter of three. She worked hard alongside her family tending to crops and orchards which led to her love of gardening. Ana met and soon after married Franjo Matus, with whom she raised two daughters, Marica and Anica. After the passing of her husband in 1977, Ana came to Canada to be with her daughter, Anica. She helped raise her grandchildren and soon became the matriarch of the family. Her passion of baking traditional Croatian and Hungarian sweets was ever present in all holidays and celebrations with family and friends. She had a love for the outdoors and could always be found working hard doing yard work, tending to her immaculate vegetable gardens or weeding all the beautiful flower beds. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all her heart and was always welcoming them with open arms.
We would like to thank all the amazing staff at St. Michael’s Long Term Care Centre in Edmonton. Your kindness, patience, love, and care meant so very much to all of us.
