It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved father, husband, brother, uncle and friend to many, Andrew 'Andy' James Robertson at the age of 56 on April 8th, 2025, after a valiant fight with ALS.
Andy is predeceased by his mother Barbara Anne Robertson nee Tracey, father James 'Jim' Edward Robertson, and brother David.
Andy was the proud father of daughter Carley and sons Brendan and Alex. As well, Andy leaves his loving partner of 17 years, Jillian to hold on to family memories and time well spent together. Andy is survived by his sister Kimberly (Kim), Wanda, and brother Rodrick (Roddy). While Andy’s early years of his life were spent on both coasts of Canada, he spent the later years of his life settled in the Edmonton area. Andy would speak fondly of his time growing up in “Beautiful British Columbia” as he would refer to it, later taking family summer road trips to Vancouver Island and the greater Vancouver area visiting with family and sharing a piece of his roots with his children. Andy would fondly talk about his years playing hockey, telling many stories of his days spent at the rink watching his brothers, David and Roddy play and partaking in the sport himself while being coached by his father, and cheered on by sisters Wanda and Kim. His passion awarded him many opportunities to travel to America and Europe to play the game he loved. Andy would later share his passion for the sport, coaching his son, Alex and the hockey team he played for, the Devon Drillers, and spending many a Hockey Night in Canada cheering on his team, the Montreal Canadians on the family television. Andy loved sharing a meal with his family, ensuring everyone knew that his mom, and grandma Tracey were the best cooks he knew. The strong maritime values his parents instilled in him of family, humble beginnings, integrity, and compassion shaped him into the man we all admired and loved.
It was this integrity that Andy would bring into his work, bringing his understanding but no-nonsense attitude to his many managerial positions with places such as Ledcor and several construction and industrial companies, with his last place of employment being Graham Construction. His years of working in such an environment had given him plentiful experience in how to manage and organize large groups and colorful personalities, giving him an uncanny ability to point out and confront any kind of situation in a heartbeat with ease.
Andy’s greatest joy in life was parenting his children, spending much of his free time at the barn watching Carley ride, at the arena coaching Alex’s hockey team, and sharing his love of classic rock and film with Brenden during their younger years. Andy remained proud and supportive of his kids as they grew into young adults, leaving them to never question his unconditional love and support. His love and guidance will be something they carry with them forever.
Andy also loved his walks and time spent with his friend, loving and excitable dog, Daisy. He was a true lover of all 'furry critters' as he would say.
Andy bravely fought ALS and we would like to extend thanks to staff at the ALS Clinic at Kaye Edmonton Clinic, ALS Society and the Edmonton General.
We appreciate all thoughts and prayers, and in lieu of flowers, ask any that are willing that you please donate to the Edmonton Humane Society.
